What Is Anxiety Disorder

What Is Anxiety Disorder?

Depression, Panic Disorder, Anxiety Disorder – all very similar disorders but still quite different.  Some people may only suffer from one of these disorders while others may unfortunately suffer from all of them.  It isn’t uncommon for a person with one to develop all three disorders.

A Closer Look At Anxiety Disorder

Do you get overly anxious about things?

Do you ever find yourself feeling anxious but don’t know why?

Anxiety is a normal response if faced with a situation that causes worry.  It is normal to experience fear, worry or anxiety when confronting a stressful or challenging situation such as exams, interviews, public speaking or other situations.  This is perfectly normal and everyone experiences this sort of anxiety at some stage.

Anxiety disorders is when the anxious reaction is not in proportion to the situation at hand.  If a person tends to overreact or become over anxious then they may be experiencing anxiety disorder.  Anxiety disorder can be mild or more severe so people may show different levels of this disorder.

If a person has severe anxiety disorder then they may find themselves being anxious constantly and often for no reason.  They may find themselves worrying about absolutely everything and sometimes feeling worried but don’t know exactly what they are worried about.  They will often be worrying about what ‘might’ happen, about situations that haven’t’ even occurred but they worry about ‘what if’ it happens.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Generalized Anxiety Disorder or GAD is a chronic problem that is characterized by long term anxiety and fear about nonspecific situations or events.  Sufferers of this disorder may worry about money, health, family and other issues but not about any specific situation, they just worry about these things in general and what might happen.  This fear is usually an unrealistic fear and not the normal fear response to a situation that has happened.

A person suffering from severe anxiety disorder may even get to the stage where they are too afraid to leave their home for the fear of something happening to them.  They may fear their children leaving the home for fear of something happening to them.  This can get to the stage where a person will confine themselves to their home and it can disrupt their life to a large extent.

If you suffer from anxiety disorder it is important to seek help and receive treatment for the disorder before it reaches the extent of disrupting your life.  There are treatments available and you can learn to overcome anxiety if treated correctly.
